In 2012, WOODS founders visited an village besides a huge forest of Jining. While wandering through this ancient village, they met two friendly artisans whose tribe had lived in this place for centuries.
HOW IT STARTED
///////////////////////////
They noticed that each house decorated with exquisitely made wood carvings, each one was incredibly lifelike and beautiful. Some wooden combs are especially impressive. This caught the founders' interest, and one of the artisans told that they had carved it entirely by hand—a skill he had learned from his grandpa.
THE DISCOVERY
///////////////////////////
This village had been carving wood for generations, carrying on the tradition for a thousand years. But now, due to economic pressures, their craft was at risk of fading away. The founder, unwilling to see this beautiful art lost, was determined to help the artisans bring their traditional skills into people’s everyday lives.
THE HERITAGE
///////////////////////////
The master woodcarver aimed to use Chinese green sandalwood for combs, which have deep cultural significance. However, due to its scarcity in China, the founders traveled to the pristine forests of the Americas to bring back this precious wood. When the master carved his first green sandalwood comb, his eyes sparkled with hope for the future. The founders are dedicated to sharing this endangered craft with the world, allowing more people to enjoy these exquisite, natural, and sustainable combs.
